New Restaurants: With summer soon turning to fall, Eater Chicago put together a pretty cool list of Chicago’s Most Anticipated Restaurant Openings for Fall 2024. There are 10 different spots listed just in Chicago alone that are expected to open in the coming months including a tavern-style pizza spot from an award-winning chef and a new place from Top Chef winner Joe Flamm as well. Speaking of new restaurants, a Logan Square ramen spot was named to Bon Appetit’s 20 Best New Restaurants for 2024 list.
Art Institute: The Art Institute of Chicago received a massive $75M donation this week. The donation is from a couple of art collectors and is the largest naming gift that the Art Institute has ever been given. The gift is set to be used towards the creation of a new modern art building that will expand the museum’s footprint.
Mexican Independence Day: An advisory was sent out this week by Chicago officials warning of increased traffic and possible street closures in downtown Chicago this Saturday and Sunday due to Mexican Independence Day celebrations, as the holiday takes place on Monday, Sept. 16. Here is what to know if you plan on traveling to or from downtown this weekend.
Black Restaurant Week Midwest: Block Club Chicago has organized a list of where to eat in Chicago for Black Restaurant Week Midwest 2024 that runs Sept. 8-22. This is part of an effort to support Black-owned eateries, and 12 local restaurants are participating.
Marrow Martini: A Chicago restaurant has made headlines this week by debuting their new “Marrow Martini” which is now the most expensive martini in the United States. See which popular Chicago spot added it to their menu, how much it will cost you and what you get with your drink.

Holiday Season Shows: Two massive holiday movie stars will be coming to the Chicago suburbs this December. A Nostalgic Night with Macaulay Culkin (Home Alone) is coming to Rosemont on Dec. 6 and An Evening with Peter Billingsly (A Christmas Story) is coming to Joliet on Dec. 18. Tickets are now on sale for both shows.
Larry David: The Chicago Theatre just announced that A Conversation with Larry David will be coming to Chicago on Friday, Nov. 8. Pre-sale tickets just went on sale this morning at 10am. You can use special code SOCIAL to access tickets today before they open to the general public tomorrow at 10am.
Desserts: Krispy Kreme just launched Churro Doughnuts… National Black & White Cookie Day is on Sept. 14, and Levain Bakery is celebrating with their take on the Black & White Cookie this weekend only. Chicago has two Levain locations if you want to try it.
