Obama Presidential Center: The Obama Presidential Center is celebrating its grand opening this weekend, beginning with a dedication ceremony taking place right now ahead of its public opening tomorrow, Friday, June 19. The ceremony started at 11 a.m. this morning and features remarks from Barack and Michelle Obama, a variety of ceremonial presentations and performances by Stevie Wonder, Bruce Springsteen, Christina Aguilera, Common and many more. The 19-acre campus includes a museum, a public library branch, expansive green space and much more. You can watch the livestream here.
Juneteenth Celebrations: Juneteenth is tomorrow, Friday, June 19, and communities across Chicago and the surrounding suburbs will be celebrating all weekend long. Highlights include a free concert at Millennium Park, the DuSable Black History Museum's annual Juneteenth Celebration, the Chicago Juneteenth Parade and numerous neighborhood festivals, concerts, cookouts and community gatherings throughout the city. Hello Kitty Cafe: Chicago's highly anticipated Hello Kitty Cafe finally has an opening date. The world’s largest location will officially open June 26 at 360 N. Michigan Ave inside LondonHouse Chicago. The two-level cafe will feature indoor seating, a Riverwalk patio, afternoon tea, exclusive merchandise and Chicago-only menu items. A grand opening celebration with special promotions and surprise experiences will take place June 26–28.
Pokémon in Chicago: Chicago has landed another major Pokémon event. The Pokémon North America International Championships will move to McCormick Place in 2027 after spending the past three years in New Orleans. The annual competition brings together top players from around the world to compete in the Pokémon Trading Card Game, Pokémon GO, Pokémon UNITE and more.
Prime Day Destination: Chicago will be featured as Amazon's exclusive travel destination during Prime Day, marking the first time the company has partnered with a single city for the shopping event. From June 23–26, travelers will be able to book discounted hotel stays through Amazon's Prime Day Travel Deals experience, with participating Chicago hotels offering up to 20% off.

World Cup: Team USA is back in action tomorrow for its second World Cup match. The Americans take on Australia at 2 p.m. following their incredible 4-1 opening-match victory over Paraguay. It's still unclear whether USMNT star Christian Pulisic will suit up for the match as he continues to deal with a calf injury. We put together a list of Chicago World Cup watch parties and soccer bars to enjoy the games at.
ARLA: One of Chicago's most anticipated restaurant openings has arrived in the Gold Coast. Opening today on the sixth floor of 15 E. Oak St., ARLA is a new rooftop restaurant from the team behind Adalina that blends Mediterranean and Japanese influences. Take a first look at the 8,500-square-foot space that features indoor-outdoor dining, a rooftop terrace overlooking the neighborhood and views of Lake Michigan. Reservations are now open.
Dragon Races: One of Chicago's most unique summer traditions returns this Saturday. The 2026 Dragon Boat Race for Literacy will bring 35 teams to Ping Tom Memorial Park to race decorated dragon boats along the Chicago River. The event celebrates a tradition dating back more than 2,000 years while raising funds for neighborhood literacy programs.
McHenry Outdoor Theater: One of the area's most unique Fourth of July events is coming to the McHenry Outdoor Theater. As part of America's 250th birthday celebration, MLB will host a free ticketed event featuring The Sandlot, a Cubs vs. Cardinals game on a giant LED screen, fireworks and family-friendly activities. The event takes place July 4, with ticket details expected soon. Also, Toy Story 5 begins its run at the theater tomorrow and will play through June 30 alongside Disclosure Day.
Every Child Thrives Festival: As part of the Every Child Thrives Festival, the public will receive free admission to both the Chicago Children's Museum and the Museum of Ice Cream on Thursday, June 25. The free day includes access to the Children's Museum's interactive exhibits and STEM activities, as well as the Museum of Ice Cream's immersive experiences, sweet treats and iconic sprinkle pool. Reservations are required for the Museum of Ice Cream.

Taste of Randolph: One of Chicago's biggest street festivals returns to the West Loop this weekend. Celebrating its 29th year, Taste of Randolph runs June 19–21 and will feature food from local West Loop restaurants, live music across two stages, a kid zone and a vendor market. The free festival takes place along Randolph Street between Peoria and Sangamon.
Pride Fest: The 25th annual Chicago Pride Fest returns to Northalsted on June 20–21. The two-day celebration will feature live music across three stages, drag performances, the Proud Pet Parade and more than 150 food and merchandise vendors as the city kicks off Pride Week ahead of the Chicago Pride Parade on June 28.
Fiesta Back of the Yards: Fiesta Back of the Yards returns June 19–21, transforming Ashland Avenue between 45th and 47th streets into a neighborhood celebration filled with live entertainment, carnival rides, games, local vendors and Latin cuisine. One of the community's most anticipated annual events, the festival celebrates the culture and traditions of Back of the Yards all weekend long.
Gold Coast Art Fair: The 68th annual Gold Coast Art Fair returns to Grant Park on June 20–21. More than 200 juried artists from across the country will showcase original works ranging from paintings and sculptures to jewelry and ceramics. The event will also feature live music, food and drinks, a Kids Art Zone and more. Admission is $10 in advance, $15 at the gate and free for children 12 and under.
Food Truck Festival: The Chicago Food Truck Festival returns to the South Loop on June 20–21 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily at 2300 S. Indiana Ave. The free event will feature chef-prepared eats from some of Chicago's top gourmet food trucks, live music, family-friendly activities and more. They encourage you to bring your own lawn chairs and make a day of it.
