  • Red Line Extension: Progress is being made on the Red Line extension as the project’s first big contract was just awarded. However, the project is now expected to cost $5.3 billion, which is up significantly from the previously expected $3.6 billion. The extension aims to build four new Red Line stops between 95th and 130th streets on the South Side.

  • Riot Fest: In a bit of a stunning announcement yesterday, Riot Fest shared that their September music festival is now moving back to Douglass Park in Chicago. You may recall that was the original location until they surprisingly moved it to SeatGeek Stadium just two months ago. Back and forth we go, but it seems like this will be the final move.

  • Real Estate: Did you know that Illinois currently has one of the hottest real-estate markets in the country? It was one of only three states to have three different cities in the top 20 hottest markets. See which three Illinois cities cracked the list and what Wisconsin city took the number one overall spot on Realtor’s August hot cities list.

  • Six Flags: The suburban Chicago theme park Six Flags Great America just announced this morning that it’s getting a new record-breaking rollercoaster called Wrath of Rakshasa. It will stand 180 feet tall and will break world records for steepest drop and most inversions on a dive coaster. Sounds intense!

  • Cracked: The Wicker Park breakfast-focused restaurant Cracked will be closing its only Chicago brick-and-mortar location at the end of August. The original Cracked location on Green Street at the University of Illinois in Champaign will remain open. The owner cited issues with the landlord and his desire to eventually open a new place in Chicago but will focus on a delivery-only spot in the short term.

Poll Results: Last newsletter we asked which Christkindlmarket location you enjoy visiting the most, and here were the results:

  • The Loop: 61%

  • Wrigleyville: 26%

  • Aurora: 13%

People enjoyed all three for different reasons: the energy of the city in The Loop, the amount of activities to do at Wrigley and the commute for those in the suburbs who prefer Aurora.
