Chicago News

  • Foxtrot: In surprising news yesterday, Foxtrot announced that they will be reopening this summer, just six weeks after their abrupt closure. Their plan is to reopen a dozen Foxtrot locations, with the first two being the ones in Gold Coast and Old Town. Foxtrot’s Instagram was wiped clean, and it now has just one new post with comments turned off. As you can imagine, people had a lot to say about the reopening. Scroll through our post, read the caption and see what people think about the news in the comments.

  • Jeni’s: In related news, the Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream shop at 900 W. Armitage Ave. in Lincoln Park has permanently closed. The store had been sharing a space with Foxtrot prior to it closing. Jeni’s shared that they don’t have any immediate plans to open another Lincoln Park location.

  • Soccer at Wrigley: This Saturday night, the Chicago Red Stars will host a game at Wrigley Field! This will be the first-ever National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) game at Wrigley Field and the first women’s sporting event at The Friendly Confines in 80 years. With the increased stadium size, the Red Stars are even looking to break the all-time attendance record for a NWSL match.

  • Lost Reef Lounge: Keeping with the theme of openings and closings, Lost Reef lounge, the aquarium-filled cocktail bar and restaurant in Lakeview, just announced that they will be closing their doors for good on June 29. It sounds like a new concept could possibly take over the location later this summer.

  • Cicada Zombies: If you thought the cicadas were bad already, it sounds like things are about to be turned up a notch as “some cicadas will be turned into sex-crazed zombies, thanks a strange fungus called Massospora cicadina,” according to ABC 7 Chicago. Scientists are using the term “saltshakers of death” to describe these cicadas.
