Open House Chicago
Open House Chicago: This weekend, Oct. 19 and 20, is Open House Chicago. The annual, one-weekend only celebration shows off the best of Chicago’s architecture with exclusive behind-the-scenes access to 170+ sites in 20+ neighborhoods open to the public. The best part? It’s free!
We suggest planning your schedule ahead of time as there is a lot to see. Be sure to check the timing that things are open before going. It’s a good idea to create an itinerary of places you want to visit ahead of time.
Some places are only open one day and some places will have long lines, like the Walt Disney House & Birthplace.
The Chicago Architecture Center has worked with notable Chicagoans to put together 10 different itineraries with various themes.

Harry Potter Shop: If you are a Harry Potter fan get excited because a massive Harry Potter Shop is set to open on Michigan Avenue in the spring. Warner Bros. Discovery will be opening the third store of its kind (London and New York City) at 676 N. Michigan Ave. It will have official merchandise, original movie props, interactive displays and photo opportunities.
Winter Predictions: Is it too soon to start talking about winter? Considering that parts of Chicago received hail this week, it feels like it’s not. Are we thinking that this sudden cold front is going to be predictive of a colder and snowier winter or do we think we will continue our trend of more mild winters? See what AccuWeather is predicting for this winter in Chicago.
Chicago White Sox: Potentially big news if you are a Chicago White Sox fan as Jerry Reinsdorf appears be open to selling the team according to multiple reports. Reinsdorf, who is now 88 years old, also owns the Chicago Bulls and had said for a long time that he wasn’t interested in selling the White Sox.
Restaurant News: In dining news, there have been plenty of recent restaurant openings and closings around the Chicago area. A few that caught our eye were the closing of Gemini Grill in River North, the opening of The Vig in West Loop and the closing of the suburban Glencoe location of Honey Butter Fried Chicken.

Arts in the Dark: Want to get in the Halloween spirit this weekend? Then check out the 10th annual Arts in the Dark Halloween Parade taking place this Saturday, Oct. 19 from 6pm to 8pm in the heart of the Loop on State Street. It’s a family-friendly event, free and open to the public.
