Chicago New Year’s Eve

  • NYE Things to Do: Not sure yet what to do for New Year’s Eve? Chicago has a ton of fun things happening around the city like firework displays, bar celebrations, special restaurant menus, big hotel ballroom parties, river cruises and more! Check out this list by Choose Chicago and this one by TimeOut to find something fun to do!

  • NYE Free Rides: Both the CTA and Metra are offering free rides on New Year’s Eve this year. CTA is free on both the bus and train after 10pm and Metra will have free rides to and from downtown after 6pm.

  • NYE Fireworks: A massive New Year’s Eve fireworks spectacular spanning across six different bridges of the Chicago River will be taking place this year. See when and where to watch it.

  • Chicago Skyway: Heads up drivers! The Chicago Skyway announced that they will be raising the price for diving across the bridge to Indiana starting on Jan. 1. See how much it’s going to set you back each way.

  • Chicago 2024 Laws: When the new year hits, more than 300 new laws will go into place in Illinois. The laws range from not allowing camera-on Zoom meetings while driving to prohibiting direct contact with bears. See five of the most interesting new laws coming to Illinois.

  • Restaurant Opening: Chicago has a new restaurant coming to Fulton Market in 2024, and it’s likely going to be one of the most anticipated new restaurants of the year. Chef Joe Flamm and his new Day Off Group, creators of Rose Mary and BLVD Steakhouse, have signed a lease to add a third restaurant to their West Loop portfolio.

  • Bally’s Chicago Casino: The Bally’s casino at Medinah Temple in River North just made the switch to now remain open 24 hours a day. It might be because it’s not making enough money thus far. The temporary casino is expected to remain in use for at least the next three years.

  • Chicago Christmas Movie: Did you know that Duncan’s Toy Chest from Home Alone 2: Lost in New York was actually filmed in downtown Chicago at a famous building that you can visit? See which one and if you ever noticed!
