Chicago News

  • Buckingham Fountain: The iconic Buckingham Fountain in Grant Park will turn back on this Saturday, May 11 during a special Switch on Summer free event that will take place from 11:30am-1pm. Special guest Tom Skilling will be in attendance, plus there will be food, activities and entertainment.

  • Friday Morning Swim Club: ICYMI, the popular Friday Morning Swim Club appears to have come to an end. In this video shared by the group’s organizers, they detailed their experience and difficulties working with the Chicago Park District. We’d recommend watching their video, but they made it sound like the Park District may not have been that interested in making it work and also wanted a lot of money for it to continue.

  • Castaways: Chicago’s boat-shaped, North Avenue Beach bar and restaurant is finally reopening. After being closed for all of 2023, Castaways Bar & Grill is returning Memorial Day Weekend as Castaways Beach Club after a $3 million renovation. The newly imagined spot will have a modern, elevated look and feel.

  • Movies in the Park: The 2024 summer lineup of free movies at Millennium Park is now out. The Summer Film Series takes place at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion on Tuesdays in July and August and is free to attend. Get all the details.

  • Foxtrot: After suddenly closing all of its stores a couple weeks ago, Foxtrot’s remaining assets including inventory, furniture, fixtures and intellectual property will be sold at auction tomorrow. On the topic of Foxtrot, Paulie Gee’s in Logan Square has decided to offer up space in its restaurant for local vendors to sell their products who were impacted by the closings.

Just For Fun

  • Rainbow Cone: Exciting news, ice cream fans! Original Rainbow Cone announced yesterday that they now have these new Sliced Creations at all Rainbow Cone shops. Which one do you want to try the most?!

  • Stan’s x Vanille: Speaking of sweet treats, Stan’s Donuts is teaming up with local Chicago bakery Vanille, this weekend only, for a special Mother’s Day collaboration in which they teamed up to create this Strawberry Macaron LeStan.

  • Tissue Bread: We are sticking with the theme of desserts and baked goods in this section today with one more fun treat for you as a new creation from South Korea called “tissue bread” has been going viral. We want to try it!
