Goose Island at Salt Shed: Tomorrow, Friday, May 3 is opening day for the new Goose Island Salt Shed Pub. You may recall that Goose Island’s original brewpub on Clybourn Avenue closed last December. This exciting new riverfront venue will be located immediately next to the Salt Shed meaning you may even be able to hear outdoor concerts from the patio. The taproom will feature six Goose Island beers on draft permanently and a full menu of food options.
CTA & Metra Merger: Illinois lawmakers are looking to merge all the Chicago area public transit agencies into one new one called the Metropolitan Mobility Authority. This means that the CTA, RTA, Metra and Pace would all replaced by this newly proposed single entity. They are saying this could make sense from a financial and coordination perspective. See what Chicagoans had to say by checking out the comments on our post.
Bears vs. Illinois: The Chicago Bears met with top Illinois government officials from JB Pritzker’s team yesterday, and let’s just say there is a long way to go in terms of getting both sides on the same page. Pritzker has previously stated that a new Bears stadium is not a priority for him, and a spokesperson said yesterday, “The current proposal is a non-starter for the state.”
Cicadas Come Early: It looks like the cicadas have decided to emerge about two weeks earlier than expected. ICYMI, they are calling this summer the Cicadapocalypse because two different broods will be emerging at the same time. They are saying it’s going to be historic, especially in Illinois. Lucky us… Here’s what you need to know.
Oak Street Beach: Who says Chicago doesn’t have great beaches?! Mostly the out-of-state trolls in our comment sections in all honesty. Turns out they will have to take the “L” on this one though because Oak Street Beach in Chicago was just named as one of the 25 Best Beaches in the USA according to a new list from Travel + Leisure!

Poll Question of the Week
Is Goose Island your favorite Chicago brewery? If not, reply with your favorite one! |
Poll Results: Last newsletter we asked you how you felt about the new Bears stadium proposal. Exactly 50% of you loved it, while the other half of you had mixed emotions:
“I wanted them to be in Arlington Heights.”
“I really don’t care what they do as long as my tax dollars do not go towards it!”
“It’s so expensive when they could just keep the one they have… at least win a few games before asking for $900 million!”
“I’m not on board with using public funds. They have a perfectly good stadium already. Seems wasteful.”

Today's Sunset in Chicago
