Since this is the first newsletter of the month we also wanted to share that April is National Brunch Month, National Afternoon Tea Month, National Volunteer Month, National Pecan Month and National Soft Pretzel Month!

And even though it's one day late, yesterday was Portillo's 60th Anniversary! Chicago proclaimed April 5, 2023 "Portillo's Day" in honor of the 60th birthday celebration! To celebrate, Portillo's is taking their original Dog House on a tour of Chicago beginning today at the Canal & Taylor location (pictured above)!

Chicago News of the Week

  • Redefine the Drive: The Chicago and Illinois Departments of Transportation have released a set of 20 new images that depict what the city's lakefront and Lake Shore Drive could look like in the future based on a study that they commissioned. The study has been labeled "Redefine the Drive" and could change the northern part of Lake Shore Drive as we know it. You have to check out these photos and toggle them back and forth to see the before and after!

  • Signature Room for Sale: Chicago's iconic restaurant sitting on the 95th and 96th floors at the top of the former John Hancock Center is now for sale. It's not known why the owner has decided to sell or how much it's going for.

  • James Beard Finalists: The finalists were announced last week for the coveted James Beard awards. Chicago had finalists in the categories of best new restaurant, best emerging chef, outstanding hospitality and best chef in the Great Lakes region.

  • Sushi by Scratch: In last week's newsletter, we gave you a heads up to be on the lookout over the weekend for May Sushi by Scratch reservations! We hope that you were able to get one if you wanted one! We posted about our experience at Sushi by Scratch last night! Check it out!

  • April Fools: Did you catch our April's Fools' Day prank from over the weekend? We thought it was a lot of fun, but it also stirred up some strong opinions...

Meet Kristin Cavallari: Attention all reality television fans! Kristin Cavallari from Laguna Beach Orange County, The Hills and Very Cavallari will be making an appearance in Chicago next week! Kristin will be at Uncommon James in West Loop on April 13 doing a signing and pictures for her new healthy recipe book called Truly Simple!

For those unaware, Uncommon James is the jewelry business that Kristin founded in 2017 that later expanded into selling home and beauty products. You will need to get a ticket to attend the event, but they are priced pretty well! After taxes and fees, a ticket comes out to $37 for admission to the event and a signed copy of the book. Next Week's Forecast: Chicago looks to be turning the corner on weather! After so many cloudy, rainy and windy days, next week's forecast looks amazing! There is a good chance that the entirety of next week is sunny and in the 70s! That is something that you just don't usually get during April in Chicago! That spring feeling is so close that we can almost taste it!
