Chicago News

  • Chicago Rat Hole: The story that has captivated the city… and the nation. ICYMI, a hole in the shape of a rat on a Roscoe Village area sidewalk (now on Apple Maps) has gone mega viral, and this Tweet started it all. There have been donations and offerings, proposals, weddings, merch drops, celeb sightings, controversies and so much more. See for yourself. Has Chicago gone overboard?! Let us know by voting in the poll below.

  • Cicadapocalypse: If you hate bugs, you aren’t going to like this one. For the first time in over 200 years, two different broods (groups) of cicadas will emerge from the ground at the exact same time. The one state in the U.S. where the two will overlap? Illinois. They are calling it the Cicadapocalypse.

  • James Beard Semifinalists: The list of 2024 James Beard Award Semifinalists were announced yesterday. If you are unfamiliar, they are essentially the Oscars for the food industry. See the list of 17 Chicago restaurants, bars, chefs and hospitality professionals in the running for the coveted award.

  • Restaurant Closings: With the good comes the bad. January is a notoriously difficult month for bars and restaurants in Chicago. Unfortunately, it looks like it’s shaping up to be that way again this year with a laundry list of recognizable places already announcing that they have closed or will be closing their doors.

  • Partying on the L: Did you know that you can charter your own ‘L’ train in Chicago thanks to the CTA? Yes, really. For the small fee of $3,000, you can throw a party in what would have to be the most unique venue in the city. See what people are saying about it. Here are the full details on what it entails.
